Default Coraline question

I just picked up my 180g tank. It's about a year and a half old, the overfolw boxes are covered in dried out coraline. Do I need to get this off or will it come back to life and continue to grow?

Mine had lots of it too, but mine was hard to get off when dry and I gave up. I found after being under water for a week it came right off with a flat utility blade though.

It won't come back if it is dead but it won't hurt anything either. If anything it will add calcium back to the system. I know it is ugly but as long as it doesn't block flow it should be OK.

Thanks, the tank is pretty dirty so I'm going to give it a good soak in water and vinegar. Whatever doesn't come off stays. I can't see scrubbing and scraping just to make the overflows look nice. Especially since it's just gonna grow back anyway.

Sounds like a plan. I did the same thing and after a good soak most came off, but like you said it will just come back, but in color
