Default Freedom Filters

Anyone here using the Freedom Filter? I have been for about 2-1/2 months and thus far seem pretty pleased (though I have no reference for comparison). But, I was hoping to see if anyone else was using this to ask questions regarding stuff like flow, skimming, cleaning, etc.

Thanks,
Dave

Great filter for FOWLR however I have never heard of anyone using them on reef tanks. Since they are diatomaceous earth filters they filter out very small particles & will take out any nutrients that are in the water that corals would need.

Just one small point of clarification. They don't use DE. Just two highly porous sponges.

Actually, I have had a mushroom that's doing quite well (after three weeks). It is improving and adjusting to the shock of the new tank, and I even keep my tank really warm.

The ones I'm familiar with use DE. http://www.pet-discount-supply.com/f...s-vor00013.htm

Do you have a link to one?

I would be cautious about the foam & carbon pads. Be sure to clean them regularly or else they will trap uneaten food & other things & turn into a nitrate problem.

That's something I was wondering about too. The mfr claims that they serve as detritus sinks and load with bacteria maintaining complete bio filtration. They claim they have never overloaded a tank, once the filter media were established. So far, my NO3 remains pretty good, but then my overall bioload is pretty nominal. 2 small ocellaris, one midas blenny, 2 small pajama cardinals, 1 medium hippo, 1 small naso, 1 medium Tomini in a 120 w/ LR and one shroom. I guess only time will tell. whether I need to drill tank and replace the FF with a sump.
