Default skimmer question for (jvharding) or anyone else

i hooked up my skimmer same as yours...(750) model.....i have a question though....on the skimmer cup...there is an outlet that you can run to an exterior cup basically an overflow...because i got it used i dont have the plug for that opening and i just have a hose hooked up to it running to a gallon jug....now on top of the skimmer cup there is another opening, and its loud as hell..i mean the air noise is so loud i can't even hear the tv in the other room...is that supposed to be closed off or something?...i noticed you had the same thing in your pics only the outlet ontop of your cup was black..mine is white.. should that be plugged up if i have the overflow hose running out of the side of the collection cup?...i know that sounds confusing, but im hoping since you have the same type skimmer, you would understand...my friend told me to put a cotton ball on top of the opening on top of the cup thats making all the noise...and it works perfectly but i want to make sure its not effecting skimming at all...
