Default refractometer question

I bought a refractometer for measuring salinity, and bought a bottle of the calibrating fluid.
When I got the fluid there was just a bottle, all the numbers are jumbled up on the front, and I have no way of knowing what level it is supposed to be. I'd like to verify that the refractometer is reading correct, it reads 1.000 with RO/DI water on it. Anyone know what the fluid is supposed to read? Thanks.

The instructions that came with my refractometer say that for calibrating it to put 2-3 drops of distilled water on the glass then adjust it to "0". You don't need any kind of special fluid for calibrating that I know of, just distilled water. You can't calibrate it with ro/di water. If anyone else out there knows more, please add in or correct me!

lol they gave you a bottle? Sweet. Ya to calibrate you put plain jane RO water on it and make sure it reads 1.000. You dont need special fluid.

Just check it with some fresh water and see if it reads 0 / 1.000 , if it does then your all set to go, if not adjust to 0 / 1.000 and then you'll be all set.

It was a $40 refractometer, so I felt obligated to buy the $3 bottle of calibrating fluid. I think I'll take it down to the LFS and double check it against his just to make sure.

Thanks gang, ya'll are awesome!
