Default been awhile-things have changed! new RSM

well..... I had a 55 gal 4 years ago and things have changed quite a bit. I kinda altered what the info book that came with the rsm said to do for start up. for instance, running the skimmer and the amount of light per day.
the reason being I got an algea bloom like right after I increased the light to 7-8 hrs per day. up untill that point no alega. let me explain how I began....first day 1/2 nutri sw w/rosw to fill tank, neat day 24lbs LR uncured, next day 40lbs LS. just sit back and let it cycle, oh also added 50ml of nitrobac. well everything seemed to be going as planned. all the water perameters were doing ok except amnonia, it stayed a 0.25 so I put a phos bag in and started the skimmer and added a few turbos and a tonga strombus to eat the algea. any more suggestions? also found a few bristle worms about an inch or smaller, lots of opines about them, think I'll let them be for the moment. anyone with some experience w/rsm please tell. thanks for any input!
