Default Temperature change?

I was wondering what exactly is too much of a fluctuation in temp.? When they talk about drastic changes is that one or two degrees or is it 5-10 degrees?

Fluctuating 1 or 2 degrees is almost not preventable. 5 or 10 degrees is entirely too much.
