Default Canister Filter

when i bought my tank from someone he had given me a H.O.T canister filter that ive been using, recently it started to go really slow and i cleaned it out, put in new carbon and plugged it in but it didnt do much. i got irritated and thought just to go and get a new filter.

so now i have a Fluval Canister Filter 405 for my 55 gallon, i got it all set up and its working great. i just wanna kno i made the right choice cause i payed big money for it and i dont want to be dissapointed

read this article about carbon:

it says no more than 3 tablespoons per 30 gallon

I have a cannister on my tank with no problems so far but I an going to put in a refugium to replace it. It is a real mess to clean and no matter what I do it blows crud back into the tank when I first start it up. I don't use carbon so I can't tell you anything about that but you should be OK if you keep the filter clean.
