sediment in line? Okay so I had a cloudy tank and couldnt figure it out untill a light came on in my head. I just started a new tank up. Its been running for about 2 weeks with just saltwater and dry sand (no live rock yet). The water was cloudy but it was new so i didnt think anything of it. it is well water. I filled my tank (117 G.) with an R/O but later noticed my new membrane wasnt put in correctly so the water went around it and the R/o filter was bypassed so it wasnt used properly. the pipe i attached the R/O to was a pipe going outside to a water spout that hasnt been used in at least 6 years. I guess there was sediment sitting in the pipe causing the cloudy water. I started using stability by seachem and it is clearing nicely. put in a yellow tang and is doing fine for the past 4 days my question: Do you think that what ever was in the pipe will be harmful to my tank? should i waste a bucket of salt and put new water in? and if i do did the sediment settle in the sand already? if i flush the water spout pipe that i attached the R/O to will it be okay to use or should i reattach it somewhere else? I know this is alot but I reall y want to set this up correctly and im having big problems already. i am very concerned about this since water is the most important thing in your tank ( at least i think so) Thank you to all who read this!

He said in the message that it was 117 gallons of water. If that is the case the tang will be fine, if it is not the case and you are using a 30 or a 3? then the Tang is doomed in your system. Also, i dont know this from personal experience but i know that i have heard that it is better to start it right then have to fix it later. It probably would not be that bad of an idea to re-do the water. The bucket of salt will be a small price to pay if the tank does crash because of the bad water. Also, are you going to throw any Live Rock in your tank, if you are going to you will get some spikes in the water because of die off.

LOL I have made that same mistake before lol. I agree the Tang needs to go. Wait for your cycle to finish.
