Sex always sells! Seriously, my LR is expelling a very fine 'spray' and some solid white stuff. I was staring at my rocks, more precisely staring at my new snails and crabs and noticed what looked like smoke coming out of my rock. It happened a few more times and then some white "stuff" - not really pod looking, kinda like fuzzy dental floss, came out.
The area it is coming out of is very small, the rock is very porous fiji, with lots of purple coralline.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have no fish, only a new clean up crew of snails and crabs...
No corals either...

WOW, you're rock is reproducing!!! That rarely happens in an aquarium. There's only a handful of cases of that actually happening. Soon you're going to have little pebbles all over the place. Better make room for it. You're going to have to keep your calcium levels up on the high end of the range for it to grow.

I believe there are some worms which expel web like nets to catch food...I would say for certain but 1) I have not had my coffee; 2) I had an 11 month old screaming all night because he's teething and 3) I have not noticed this activity in my tank.

You have to get special rock food for it! Tough to find. Not many places carry it yet.

Will it raise my nitrates? Lower my calcium?Can I add it my top off water?Is there something I can do "turn my rock on"so it will have babies?

You have to be careful with the rock food since it is extremely high in calcium - in fact it's good for older women who need extra calcium in their diets. Doesn't affect nitrates much since it is mostly mineral based & not based on organics. Just add it straight to the tank. As far as what turns rock on, I guess you just have to stroke it the right way. You might ask Steph what she did - might have to do with flow around the rock. Jim might know - I think he may have read something about it. He was trying to get his rock to reproduce.

I have heard of this before. Does it happen to all kinds of LR or is this unique to a specific species of LR ie. Tonga, Fiji,Carribean, Marshall island. Get my drift?

I've read abut it happening with Tonga branch but the branched portion needs to be long. A calcium reactor will definitely help to keep the calcium levels at the high end of the range.

ROFLMAO!!! So many things I could say - most of which would get me censored!! For what it's worth, I just got a new Echotech Vortech that was "blowing" right onto the area in question. Maybe the Vortech gives just the right blow ...

I hope this doesn't mean I have to do any midnight feeding or water changes... (at least that was a clean thought!!)

If I see any more sex going on in my tank I will keep you posted

Actually - yes - or at least within a day or so... I thought about that last night but had never thought of live rock spawning. I've seen coral spawn - (Discovery channel) looked the same...

And I must say it is a rather large and good looking piece of rock!!
