Red Slime Algae

I have a fairly new nano set up. 48 litres and 11lbs of live rock. Everything was going great, I had an algae bloom at the start but it settled down. I got some green mushroom coral which is doing amazing. I have now got a green chromis and a common clown. I have also got a cleaner shrimp and a turbo snail.
I have had a bloom of thread algae but the snail and the clown have been taking care of it. My problem noe is red slime algae ans it's spreading!! All my water parameters are rock steady and normal.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!

What about your phosphate, I heard hi phosphate could lead to growth of algae.
Did you use RO water.

Default Causes of Algea

Nutrients that you should check and minimize: Phosphates, Nitrates, and Nitrites.

I also found that increasing circulation and a UV Filter help. Of course, you should have a powerful protien Skimmer.

I had the same problem and i got something called chemi-clean. It is some sort of powder like substance that is safe for reef tanks, all inverts, and obviously fish. It worked really well and was relatively cheap when compared to the protein skimmer. The company that sells it is Boyd Enterprises, INC, but i just bought it at my aquarium store.

Hey Guys,
Thanks for all your advice.
I have directed my water flow over the rockwork a bit more and that seems to be working. Phosphate, nirtite and nitrate are all as they should be. Prob just a blib! I don't have a protein skimmer as the tank is so small and came as a full set-up.
Cheers again

Give it time, these things will usually work themselves out in a new tank. Watch those levels carefully to make sure they don't fluctuate with the algae bloom.

Welcome to the forums, nanoreef.
I just left a forum on the same page of General Interest Forums, but scrolling down to the IDENTIFICATION forum, where Eileen enters : Red Slime remains. It may be helpful to you as it was to me.
How do you like your nano reef? My friend wants me to gather info for her. Did you get it on line? Did you buy a starter kit? Was it hard to set up? Hope you cure that red-slime!

When you use chemi-clean watch and lower your skimmer it will make it over flow.
chemi-clean makes the water sticky and the bubbles form more and will over flow the cup.
Watch the food too much will make it grow because it has Phosphates in the food also I had food that was bad and old did not know it and every time I used those pellets the fish, snails and crabs did not eat it they set in the bottom and two days later were it was red slime was every where there but after I netting and sucked the sand it took it out it was gone.
