Default So excited I GOT my tank!

It is a 75 gallon acrylic custom, built in overflow and predrilled. Super sweet, coming with everthing from sKimmer, Sump, Lights, heater, test kits, everything.

Its used but in super condition! I just came from seeing/purchasing it. It had fish and everything in it. Looked pretty clean and no problems.

I plan to cycle it like its new, putting in new rock, sand, and water. Any suggestions?

The lighting is weak on it, only flaw I could find. It has:
coralife 36in 96 watt light

I need like another 300-400W for good coral? Can anyone provide some ideas/link for lighting?

"Fish and everything in it". UHH...whats everything? You make it sound as though the tank was doing wonderful even with the lower watts per gal it has. I would be interested what everything is and if its doing fine why are you changing LR, LS and the water and doing a "cycle" thing. Could cause some undue stress on the critters doing all that stuff if everything is already going great!

No I didnt get any fish or critters. The guy I am buying it from offered me his clean up crew and all live rock and sand. I passed on it. I want to make it my one and do it my way. The tank is now drained and cleaned out (sump too). I am buying my LR and LS and salt water from my LFS tomorrow evening.

Back to the lighting .....

I need 5-7 watts per gallon so corals? I want to (once its ready for coral, down the road) some toadstools, finger leather, Mushrooms, Devils hand or maybe some toadstools. So many ideas ........ *becomes dizzy*

Sounds like a softie tank! For those corals listed thats plenty of light. IMO look at T5HO lighting. Cant go wrong.

Welcome to RB, David!
From what you want to keep I agree with Jim - T5 lighting is the way to go. Just be sure to get lights with individual reflectors rather than 1 big one. They will return more light to the tank for you. You could get MH lighting but then you'd have a heat issue to deal with & bulb replacement would cost more.
When starting your tank, be sure to place the LR in first & then back fill with the sand. This will give your rock a stable base in the event you get burrowing fish.
Take you time - nothing good comes from rushing things. Read, read, read. And when in doubt ask questions. We're here to help, not sell you things.

Thanks for the advise.

My LFS has a sale on 48" T5 260 watt, right now for $260. They said the sale will be over soon. From what I have read I am probably 6 months from needing the light for the coral. Is $260 such a good price I should pick it up now, before the sale ends and the price goes up?

With the current light and the one above I will be at 4.74 watts per gallon, is that enough?

Well, at that price I am not sure if that particular unit comes with the individual reflectors, but you can always buy them seperately for 20$ each.
