I turned my 55 into a qt tank for now,so all of these are in the 55 for now.. its is going to hold everything that is going into my 120 until its ready.... these were all picked up today from a LFS... hefty price 11 bucks a pound but with volume buys its 8 a pound... I pulled all of the crushed coral out today and replaced it with 100 lbs of live sand.. murky mess right now and have had to dump the skimmer about 3 times in the last 8 hours but by morning should be nice and clear...

I'd rather put base rock in my tank than rock full of mojano's!

I have been amazed at the stuff that has come out of it. I was going to ask about the anemones if it is mojano's or aiptasia's I may hold off on throwing those pieces in the big tank. this is why I am going to start throwing everything in the 55 before it gos in the 120. I think I might go and pick up a few pepermint shrimp today and see if they will chow down on them... i think they are cool looking but if I do start throwing some cool stuff in the tank I would hate to see it get killed by an anemone. are you sure thats what they are?

its Green Valley aquarium. has to be my new favorite in Las Vegas. they are in the process of converting there entire store to only marine. going to be awesome when done. very knowledgeable and friendly staff. family owned and operated. I can honestly say it is the best in las Vegas for marine animals and supplies. they have been around for 10 years they said but I had never heard of them, but since going there they will start being my first stop on my weekly fish store trips..
the rock is getting better and better every cay. I found a few urchins in there another bristle star, 4 or 5 muscles. and a bunch of interesting corals. i don't know what any of them are but I am going to snap some pictures in a few minutes here to put in the ID threads..

I wouldnt count on it. You cana quire a suringe for a few dollars. then the lemon juice for only a few more dollars and that is all you need.

maybe you can even ask your neighbor for some lemon juice.

I have heard of people who have an aiptasia anemone area in their sump. I guess they are god for the non reef tank?

I've read the same, that people have used their overflow box to house aiptasia as they help keep the tank very clean and clear. I've read of using bridalviel over the tubes to keep them out of the sump and therefore the display. Not sure how successful they have been but I plan not to try, at least until I know a lot more about the care of a reef.

I forgot to add, tell them the syringe is for your grandpas medicine or something because if you tell them its for your fish tank they may end up calling a drug addict agency.

what the damage of leaving them in there? I dont think I am going to put anything in there but a few large fish, I decided to go against doing a full on reef tank in my 120. the costs would be just to much for me to handle. I am thinking maybe doing a few lions and whatever survives on the rocks.. I think I am going to do one of my smaller tanks as a reef tank. but after looking at the prices of the corals and such that I would want, the hobby just isnt in my budget, I build Custom cars and that sucks up a enough of my hobby cash.

It looks like your lfg is ordering from Live Rock - Tampa Bay Saltwater Aquacultured Live Rock and just doubling the cost. Great looking rock, I wish I had the ablilty to cherry pick a few nice pieces. I would suggest running it through a qt period like you were planning to see if there are any undesireables on it.

not a fan of imports.. I am like a retirement home I build cars 1955 and older. I just finished and sold my 1929 dodge and I am getting ready to start a 1954 bel air. I am doing a 26 dodge a 32 ford and just sold my 1929 ford. hey it pays the bills.

anyway as far as the anemones are concerned, Richard from Tampa bay saltwater told me:
"There are no aptasia on rock from the gulf.....only good anemones.....they look alike...be careful.....aptasia are light brown stalks...and CLEAR tentacles......"

I am sure this is the source my LFS is getting this rock from and I am placing an order with him directly now. best rock I have ever seen. and there website is full of great information. the video on how they created and harvest the reef is pretty interesting.

I will do little more research and I have forwarded him photos of my anemones to see what he thinks. but from what I understand there is NO Bad anemones that come from the Gulf.

I am sure others may have different opinions on this but I am going to watch and see if they multiply and that will be the giveaway.. they could have come from other rocks the LFS had in the tank.

Jim
