Default Odd tank size?

I know this is going to be an odd question but whatever. I was going to do something like a 90 but after looking over that idea i came to the realization that it is going to cost just a little too much because of the car and college and such so i think i am going to have to go a little smaller. I was looking on Glasscages.com and saw that they have 55 longs and it sparked my interest. I really really really want a Tang of some sort so the length is really important to me which is why i am looking into these, since they are 4 foot long and a foot and a half wide but they are only 13 inches tall. The problem i run into is none of the shipping points are even remotely close to me and it costs about 260 dollars to ship it to the warehouse in Youngstown. Anyone have any ideas as to where i could find such a weird sized tank and if not how hard it is to make a GOOD tank and how much. I would not even know where to start with that but i am sure i could figure it out. There is also a 65 long on there that is a little bit taller but i heard somewhere that tall tanks are pretty much useless because fish dont need the up and down space like they do the length. Thanks in advance for the help.

Plus, correct me if im wrong but the lighting wont need to be as strong for a shorter tank because it will take less to hit the bottom. Just an assumption but it made sense to me.

There is a 55 that measures 48lx18hx12d that you can get for around 50$'s at wall mart. The same logic would apply for lighting.I would say that for the 260$ shipping fee you could go to the lfs and buy a nice tank.

Besides for a standard 55, you may be able to come across a 40L tank (48 x 13 x 16) at a LFS if your lucky. Yes, the 18" wide would be nice for you, but if on a budget, shipping a tank gets expensive.

I am not going to order it off the internet and pay that much money for a tank that size. I would attempt building one before i paid that. I would like it wider though than deep just because it gives you more aquascaping possibilities. I would have liked to go bigger but then there is like 500 dollars just in rock and sand then a skimmer and then a light and then all the other odds and ends, and then you get to add fish. That is just more money than i have for this right now.

Try looking for used stuff in the local paper or local reef clubs.Sometimes in the local reef clubs you can get free stuff just to take it out of someones garage.I got a 135 that way.

At my grandparents house over thanksgiving, there was some old newpaper in the basement and i took a look at it and it was the sales. Wouldnt you know a 125 reef ready with everyhting needed for only 1,000$. Now THAT is a steal! Too bad the paper was from 2002

I have been checking the papers, craigslist, and even eBay regularly. I just cant find something in the size that i would like. I may just have to settle for a tall and narrow tank, that will make me sad
