Default oh no i think im doing this all wrong!!!

everyone can call missy dumb now. but here are my problems and hopefully you can look past them and help me fix them....
1.) 28 gallon bowfront aquarium.
2.) cascade canister filter model 500
3.) live sand i bought off of someone on craigslist then my brother put it outside one night and it gort really cold.it was covered! (there was great bacteria and snales and everything good) its in my tank now....and i realized thats not good.

what do i need to do. ive got all my essentials like heater and such. but........i want a mini reef and i need help. is the sand ok? do i need to get a skimmer? do i add live rock in right now with my situation. i just set it up yesterday. tell me what to do!!!! im so dumb. i also totally used water from my tub. so... yeah.

thanks guys.

Glad you posted for some advice. It takes a lot of reading and research to know how to create a successful reef tank.
YES - you should have a skimmer (I say should because in this hobby there are no absolutes)
If all you have in the tank is sand and water you could pump the tap water out and add RO/DI water that you have premixed.
I dont know if cold will affect any bacteria in sand, but getting it from an unknown source is worrysome - you dont know what condition this persons tank was in, cold be great, could be bad.
DO NOT ADD LIVESTOCK yet! READ, reasearch, learn. Your live rock will need to cycle and you will need to stabilize your system. Water perameters, temp and lighting issues will need to be taken care of before you add livestock.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Everyone makes mistakes. Now do a lot of research.
