| Personally I wouldn't use it. Problem you'll have is that since cc has a large particle size, detritus will find its' way into the bed and you'll end up having nitrate problems. Think of a freshwater tank with an undergravel filter - you know how the gravel bed gets all built up with that crud - same thing happens with cc.
