Default sump flow question

Ok so I have a question about flow into a sump. Say your overflow is rated at 300 gph and your return pump is rated at 310 with a 4' pump height, wont the overflow eventually not keep up? How do you control the flow rates?

Your overflow will return the same volume to your sump as your pump is returning to the tank. You don't need to match the two exactly, as long as your overflow has a rated GPM higher than your pump.

Is there a reason for this because it seems to me(logically) that if your overflow is bringing in more water than is taken out you will eventually flood it, and that would be bad...lol.

I have a mag 9.5 pump (950 gph) and my overflow is rated at 700 gph so you have headloss as it returns to the tank
