Default help with identifying a hermit crab

I have a hermit crab in the tank tht is kinda becoming a mence to the tank. He is over and inch in body size and jsut keeps growing. He is black and white stripes, NOTS BANDS. he's gone through 3 shells alrdy the last one being about 2" in dia. i have some red hermits and the biggest one of those is about half the black and white ones size.
Ive had my tank for about 4 months and i would say tht in 4 months its tripled if not quadruplted in size. should i get rid of it or try and accomidate it. The damn thing also wont stop killing my snails, he doesnt do it alot but every now and then i find him eating one along with a blue or red hermit also now and then. ANY IDEAS, lol?

Let me first say that hermit crabs ounce for ounce are one of the most violent creatures on this planet. For a long time I kept a tank with the large hermit crabs you are talking about.I cant or wont tell you what to do with it,but it has no place in a reef tank. They are to slow and lumbering to catch a healthy fish. But nothing else is safe.It may grow to nearly 4 inch's in total body length and two inch's across. Now thats body size not shell size. You can feed it small pieces of table shrimp with tongs. They become very acclimated to humans.

I have a hermit that sounds soo similar to the one you are describing, black and white stripes, not bands..He is a mover! Everytime I am up close looking at the tank, he is sure to come to right where I am and check me out. He is not as large as yours, but def has a human connection..By the way, My boyfriend thought that I was crazy to claim the hermit "knew" when I was there and came to say "hi". Anyways, sorry to hear that he is being a menace!

Aww sorry to hear that. I dont have any corals, just feather dusters, and he doesn't bother them at all! He's just always on the move, He's my fave hermit crab I have, just because he doesn't just sit there, haha. Hope you figure out what to do with him. To bad your so far away I would take him off your hands, I have nothing he can harm!
