There are actually a few different ways. There is the toothpick method:
"Frag" of the Month - September 2006 - Fragmenting a Green Tree Coral - Nephthea sp.- Reefkeeping.com

Then there is the briday veil method. Check out the last 2 videos on this thread:

It Sounds like his pieces are already on rock rubble to me. If that is the case you can just place them on your live rock and kinda wedge them in places where snails or what not can't knock them over. You can also put them on with reef safe putty or glue, the only problem would be some of these products bond so well you can not move them. So make sure you put your piece where you want them the first time. Mickey!

I usually either wedge the small rock that the coral is attached to in a hole pinched between two rocks or epoxy the rocks together using a reef safe epoxy.

I've tried both the "stab 'em with a toothpick" method and the "strap 'em on with a rubber band" method. Had poor luck either way. Corals have always split away from the foreign body. I think these methods work best with the tougher corals. Recently, I've read that a couple of drops of superglue applied between the rock and the cutting is frequently used by fraggers of soft corals. You do have to dry the attachment point of the coral with a paper towel first- and of course the rock has to be dry. This has the advantage of sealing off the cut area as well.
