Default Powerheads and Heaters

I have a 55gallon bowfront aga aquarium that i am going to setup with LR and LS. I need to have someone recommend the following.

1) How Many and what type of powerheads to install.

2) How many and what type of heaters to install.

There is no sump or anything other than the tank. I have a penguin bio wheel filter...

If someone could help i want to order these today if possible.

For your heaters -- about 3 watts per gallon (some people say 5 depending on your location.) Divide that amount by 2. It's always a good idea to have 2 heaters running, that way, if one malfunctions the other will support the tank until you get a replacement. Or, keep an extra one on hand.

Total waterflow should be around 10 times your total volume or 550 gph minimum. Again, try to divide that up between your powerheads and filter, giving about 3/5ths to your filter and 2/5ths to your additional powerheads. Try to create a random flow pattern.

The biowheel is a nitrate factory and ideally should be removed. I think your best bet would be to get a sump and protein skimmer. Get a good skimmer, it's critical in removing waste.

I agree with the points made by tristan. Here's my 2 cents:
1. 2-3 powerheads should be sufficient for your 55 gal. I had 2 vortechs in mine and had plenty of flow. If that is not in your budget, the korallias are good pumps.
2. Ebo-jager & visatherm (stealth) are two good brands. I would also go with 2 heaters incase one malfunctions. I would put one in the main tank and one in the sump.
3. Checkout Melevsreef.com - Welcome! on how to make a sump inexpensively. Try to put the largest sump you can fit in your stand. Happy reefing !
