Default skimmer question

If my overflow has a prefilter, should i just remove the the prefilter from my skimmer pump?

I don't like prefilters and I don't use them on anything so I think you can guess my answer. Pumps can handle anything that is floating in the water that would have got caught by the prefilter. Don't remove the intake grate though.

I took mine off my overflow, it's just one less thing to clean. I do still have a sponge on my riser tube.
