Default heater emergency

My heater Marineland 350 just blew up. I happen to be there when it happened but I am not sure what it let into the water. I shut down the entire system.

The room smells something awful.

What do I do.
I removed the heater.
Is the water OK or do I need to replace some/all?
I have coral and fish and liverock and such.
I am not really new to this but this is the first time my heater blew up.

The first thing to do is air out the room so there is no smell left.Do this before you restart the system.Make sure all the pieces of the heater are out of the tank. You might do a water change just to make sure all is well.

burned coatings on wire and other parts. If you run a skimmer before the smell is gone you might add some poisons to the tank.

Thanks for the help. I believe I have it done now. Is this frequent with marineland heaters?

It happens with a lot of heaters. You might be better off getting 2,there is safety in redundancy. And dont go for cheap.

I would avoid the glass tube versions and look for metal tubes or pyrex.

I highly highly recomend ebo jager heaters...theyre a little pricy but they are by far the best heaters in the world. Mine has never had any problems fresh or saltwater for over 2 years. Ebo jagers keep the temp at an exact temp. no matter what! Look them up on ebay...thats where the best prices are!
