This makes article # 20 I have read concerning the making of live rock with cement or brick mortar.He is the first to claim that home made live rock is pourous.Real live rock is so pourous that if you made a cup out of it ,it would not hold water.I have heard of everything from adding spagetti or rice,cream of wheat and rock salt to introduce some level of pourousity to home made live rock.I just wonder how long a strand of spagetti will remain decaying in a chunk of cement?Years?I have to agree that some of this stuff looks realy nice and can have some interesting shapes,however there is nothing remotly natural about pieces that look like pretzels,cereal bowls,dog houses,dough nuts or long tubes.I am not sure that soaking this stuff in vinagar or washing it with fresh water for weeks on end will reduce its ability to raise your ph into the 9's.I am sure of one thing,it will never work or look like real live rock.

i have made some of the rock you are tolking adout and you are right on some points but if you have the time to alow it to soak it works well for a cheap base rock and coralline algae will grow on it
