Default 6 months...update

Ok, so Saturday I quarantined my 3 remaining fish, 2 redleg hermits, and 1 nassaruis snail. I put the algae scrubber and a glass scraper to some good use. I bought a hydrometer and made my own water (I had previously been just buying water by the gallon from LFS) I thoroughly cleaned the cannister filter, and bought some nitrate/nitrite test strips. As of Yesterday morning Nitrate was at 40 and Nitrite was at 1. As of this evening, Nitrate is between 0-20, and Nitrite is between 0 and 0.5. I also added another 5 lbs of Live sand, and I was way wrong on my live rock weight estimates. I've got about 35-40lbs of rock. (again my tank is 55 gallons). The tank looks clean and beautiful, but I'm starting to get some small patches of algae again. Some of it is green bubble algae. Only 1 fish survived (2 in. true Percula) one of the two hermit crabs went and ate the nassarius snail out of his shell. The crab was also out of his shell, so I'm guessing he attacked the snail for his shell??? There are also a few aiptaisia starting to come back. Do I want to throw 3 or so turbo snails, a few nassarius snails, and a couple peppermint shrimp in there to keep it clean?

thanks again to all those who offer such helpful insight!
