this is what i was trying to explain in another thread.. is this normal? the collection cup fills up with extremely wet bubbles with makes half the cup water up to where the hole is where the bubbles come from .. had to put some sponge on top, bubbles are coming out.

What kind of skimmer do you have?

My guess is you have your collectin cup to low. I do not have "sitting" clear water in my collection cup, it comes out brown (which is correct) from the bubbles.

Try raising up your collections cup. Is the bottom of it on the surface, or a little bit in the water? It should be, if you have it all the way down into the water that could be the issue.

I am sorry, I didn't realize that your tank was brand new.
Is the skimmer also new? If the skimmer is also new, then it will have a break in period, basically not working correctly. (easily put)

Also--it is most likely white, because there is nothing for it to skim...you will see it change with time!!

I would just be patient and give it time. If it doesn't change in like a week, check with everyone again. If anyone disagrees..I won't be offended!

I had the same skimmer a while back. I never had that problem with mine. I do recall something about an adjustment screw inside the skimmer. I think it was an air adjustment. The more air going into the skimmer the less water you'll get.

Chemicals in the water, such as stress coat, or on a new skimmer can cause that to happen. It usually stops after a few days to a week. Until that time, let your skimmer pull out about 5% of the tank water per day through the collection cup drain line and replace it with fresh water. It will stop eventually, unless you have a way too powerful pump on your skimmer. What pump do you have?
