do you clean your sump/fuge? or just the skimmer?

well it all depends on where your equipment is. If your heater/pumps/skimmer are all in teh sump then I would take them on say a monthly baiss and give them a good cleaning..but if you have any sponges (the cleaning kind not the marine type) then leave at least one at a time in there and swap them out. But LR/LS you don't need to clean.

The skimmer definitely, the sump shouldn't get gunky unless your water isn't moving too well, it will get stuff in it, but it shouldn't need cleaning, the fuge is supposed to grow beneficial algae and cleaning it would be difficult, your equipment, like Anthony said, should be serviced regularly - heaters, pumps, sponge filtration...
