Icon14 Buying LR online vs. the LFS

How many of you have bought live rock online from some of the salt water aquarium supply dealers? Is the rock as good as what you would buy in your LFS. The reason I ask is that my LFS wants 7.00 per pound for his live rock and with a 90 gallon, that gets pretty heafty in price. I have seen this Fiji live rock on line for much cheaper, even with shipping, I still come out cheaper buying online vs. the LFS. Also, if you bought online, what site would you recommend to buy LR from? Im really not wanting to spend 800.00 on live rock if this Fiji rock I see online is good too use. Your experiences bad or good would be appreciated. Again, thanks for all the help.

I think I have answered my own questions by searching past posts on this very subject, I think I will stick with the LFS, will be nice to support a local business!! (800.00 is hard to swallow but if it is best for the tank and future fish then so be it)

People on here use someone called Mr. Marine from ebay. I hear that he has really nice rock and does not change appendages for it, you may want to look into it before you spend 800 dollars on something you could get for 500.

Keep checking the Buy and Sell forums. You can find good deals there.
There's people out downgrading tanks and/or leaving the hobby.
I bought live rock for $2.00 lbs a pound locally.

Some questions have been raised recently concerning lace rock and base rock. Most of the on line guru's like Ron Shimick are saying it eithr wont become live or at best it will take years. The fact that coraline algea will grow on it does not make it live rock, its what happens on the inside that counts.I would say that getting rock from the lfs may be the best choice and getting it drop shipped to your local airport is second best.If I had to buy from mr marine I would go fo.I would guess that after the rock has been out of the water 4 days it wouldnt be much better than lace rock.

That is the method I took too. When i got my tank it came with 100 lbs of rock for around $4.00 a pound. Then the light, tank, stand, canopy, skimmer, and everything else was free...lol

I live in MD, theres a place called Pacific Coast Aquaculture,
Their selling Fusion for 4.00 a pound plus actual shipping cost.
I don't need rock but I plan to go by there next time I go to the beach.
they sound and look very legit.
