Default glass canopy/use it or not?

i just picked up my nova extreme pro light set up.while reading the instructions for use they specify that they should not be used on an open top tank but instead they should be used in conjunction with the glass tank top.do you guys[and girls]use the glass tops or do you keep your tank tops open?

I keep mine open because it lets the tank breathe. Also at first I had my tank covered when I first started but had problems keeping my temp. at the right level. Does your set up have mounting legs or a way to suspend the lights above the tank so it isn't just set right onto the tank?

Is nova extreme the same as current?
If so the legs are VERY flimsy,
I use both t5ho and cf.
My 75g I keep glass lids on, my 55g has a canopy so I don't.
Manufacturer warn because salt and water will/may come into contact w/ the fixture/bulbs.
can cause a shock.
