How old is your tank and what are the water parameters. Those should help us out alot with this question.

If your tank is a month than it may just be that you are finally hitting the end of your cycle. How much rock do you have, fuge, anything that could be making silicates high such as bad sand or something like that?

There was a post regarding Live Sand this past week that addressed this exact issue. Live Sand is alive and chances are you will have a lot of die off if you did not provide acceptable living conditions for it (temperature, salinity, flow). I am not saying that your brown fur is necessarily related to this, but you will definitely want to monitor your parameters! Do you have a picture of the furry stuff?
