Icon14 Hermit Crab and Peppermint Shrimp ?

My tank has been up and running now for 4 weeks, I have had a clean up crew in since last Thursday (march 20). I purchased a peppermint shrimp yesterday and spent 1 hour drip acclimating him. I put him in the tank and he seemed to do fine, he found him a hiding place and kinda stayed put, he didnt venture out too much. I woke up this morning and I saw one of my red tip scarlette hermits eatting the shrimp, I dont know if the shrimp just died or it the hermit killed it. Do hermits and peppermint shrimp not get along or is it possible he died from stress of the move from the LFS.

90 gallon
Ammon. 0ppm
Nitrate 0ppm
Nitrite 0ppm
SG: 1.025
PH: 8.0-8.2
Temp: 79

I had purchased the shrimp for aptasia control.

Hermits are opportunistic little critters.I agree with Angela, the hermit found a free meal.

Never mind guys and gals, the shrimp is fine, he had just molted I guess from stress last night. he has finally made himself visable, he is alive and well. I guess the hermit was eatting the shell

Know what you mean -- the first time my shrimp shed and I saw the other critters eating the skeleton, I had a heart attack! I don't "clean up" moltings, I just let the clean-up crew do its work.

Good to hear and it was just as expected. Never had a hermit go after a fish or shrimp unless cleaning up a carcass or such. I love a happy ending. Enjoy!
