Default help with sump

Ok I have checked all the refugium and sump threads but I am still lost. I have a 125 gallon tank that I am currently using a wet/dry on. What I would like to do is take a 29 gallon tank that I have and make a sump/refugium out of.

So my question is how do I determine the hight of the baffles and the size refugium portion. The 29 gallon tank dimensions are h18xL30xw12

Thanks
Travis

I could be wrong but i think that is just personal preference. As long as the water can get over them and the sump can still hold all the water from the tank in case of a power outage, you will be fine. In my 20 i used 6 inch baffles for the bubble trap and a 7 inch baffle for the fuge. You are also going to have to remember to put siphon holes on all the tubes so the tank does not completely drain if the pump goes offline, but with a wet/dry i am assuming you know that..here is a pic of mine

Yup, height, distance between the baffles, and size of the fuge is a personal preference. The height of the baffles will determine the height of the water. You don't want your baffles to be to high though. If they are and your power goes out you want to have enough room in the sump for the amount of water that will drain until your water level falls below the overflow. The distance between the baffles also plays and important roll. If narrow you will be increasing the speed of water flowing through them, and opposite for further apart. The baffles are there to trap bubbles from getting to the return area and then into your main display. If you baffles are to narrow they speed of the water flow will be faster, possibly letting more bubbles through. So find the distance that best suits you most people leave and inch or two. The fuge size is totally up to you. A bigger refugium means more DSB (if you plan of using one), more cheato, and more chance for the water to have nitrates removed. So really is all depends on you, how much space you have to work with, and what you want to put in there.

Hope it helped
