first fish

Hi:

My Tank is now three weeks old. Filled with live rock and I was told ok to get fish. Last
night I purchased two raccoon butterfly fish. The store sold me dried blood worm to feed them. After getting home the bottle says for freshwater fish. Not so sure about this store but thought they might be ok for a first fish????? At what point do I offer them food? What do you suggest to feed them? How do you feed them - fresh water just floating on top of the water but with this tank the filter will I'm sure just suck the food in? Any advice would be most welcome?

Thank You in advance! Linda

65 gal tank 20 gal sump 70 lbs live rock 20 lbs live sand

hi i'm sorta new to the forum, but to answer your question, first of all bloodworms are okay for freshwater fish and saltwater fish(unless they added some sort of chemical for preservation). second, 3 weeks IMO is not enough for the cycle in your aquarium to finish just my opinion. I dont mean to be mean but 6 weeks is usually the cycle time

you can put them in a container and sink it to the bottom of the tank or hang it in the middle

What are your water parameters?

Raccoon Butterfly fish aren't really good for reefs, they eat inverts and corals. Also you're on your lower limit for tank size required for the species. They DO however eat blood worms, but make sure you get a more varied diet for them as well (brine shrimp, mysis, etc). Usually you want to feed them about 24 hours after you get them acclimated, it seems like a long time but they should be READY to eat when you do feed them. Good Luck!
