Default help,yellow tang problem

alright guys,i have a yellow tang that was purchased last friday.when it was put into the tank it was pretty healthy as far as coloration and fin condition.he hid in the lr fo 6 days, making his first real appearance this afternoon.its pectoral fins look damaged like the back edges are torn his coloration is bleached and his eyes look a little cloudy.could this be the result of hiding in the rocks for almost six days or could it be a true health problem?if anyone has any input it would be great to here what you have to say.

First Thing I Would Ask Is If Youi Have Any Other Tangs In The Tank.but It Sounds To Me Like He Is Not Happy, but You Might Have Bought Him That Way,i Dont Know How He Looked When You Bought Him.but If You Do Have More Than The 1 Tang He Would Be Afraid Of It If Has The Body Shape.let Me Know,i Have One So I Am Interested To See What Happens.

Could be fin rot. Got a picture? Here is a link on tang diseases at WWM. There is a person who described fin rot on there tang on this page, it's the 8th question from the top. There is also a picture of a yellow tang with fin rot on this page.

Yellow tangs are pretty hardy in terms of tangs and also they usually seem to be very active. So it is strange that your tang is acting that way. Was the fish in good health when you bought it and how big is it?

Hi, I will suggest that when you post and are asking for help or for ideas, please include all basic information. Basic information should include; all water parameters, size of tank and complete set up meaning, filter type (sump, canister etc.), lighting (what type and total output) and if you have fish only with live rock and if you keep corals. Also how long the tank has been up. I know some of this is your bio but many bios don't contain this info. How many times has someone posted and then there is this list of postings addressing the above. If you give the most info you can to give us a good profile, it will cut down on response time and mis-diagnosis or answers that don't fit and we will all benefit.

well i quarantined the tang after posting yesterday.when i got home from work today he was dead.all of my parameters water wise are great and all other fish in the tank are doing great as well as the polyps, frogs spawn and bubble coral.the tang seemed to be very healthy at the lfs when purchased and was acclamated by placing in a clean fish only bucket with a constant drip from my tank through a drip line for an hour.

if he was hiding for 6 days than he probably wasnt eating which could be the start of lateral head and line disease. My tang had it when I bought it from a dentist draining her tank lol....they can survive it if you take the right precautions to insure good health. The stress of being in a new tank probably got him with underlying factors you couldn't control from previously most likely. It may have not been eating in the fish store either....did you ask to see it eat before you bought it?
This is key
