Default Hello peeps been gone for awhile

well anyway I have a 65gl high right;I was undecided what to set up as,I was going back and forward about if I wanted to make it into a reef set up are a sorry to say a african cichlid tank.but when I came online into this forum I'm like man it's nothing like a reef tank.but anyway I have a 225gl african cichlid tank;and I want to set up a reef but I know it takes time, money and focus;you see I have the time, the focus but for as money other things came up but so what I'm saying should I take my time and set up the reef tank I want no matter how long it takes or set up as a african cichlid tank.now if you all decide to say go reef let me know a list of things should I start buying;but like I said if a start as a reef tank it going to take me a longtime to set it up.65gl high eace and Thanks for the help.: P.S. I had a reef tank once before, soft coral

C'mon now, what kind of question is that!

Money is an issue that haunts most of us and reefs are not cheap by any means. But the prospect of creating something so beautiful, intricate, and colorful is worth it all. I have been letting my FOWLR mature, adding as I go. After 8 months I finally have all the Live Rock and filter system (Protein skimmer) that I want. Next step will probably be a decent light fixture and then it's reefer time.

I get the idea you know what you want so just go for it already. We'll be here to exchange stories along the way!

Looking fwd to discussing more tomorrow or Friday!

Welcome back.

For sure go with the reef tank man, only way to go! Sounds like you have a awesome cichlid tank, and I would keep that. I used to have FW tanks myself, a 10gallon and 30gallon. One day I went and bought a 22 gallon and started a SW tank. After 2 months I sold my 30gallon FW tank and fish. I also sold the fish from my 10gallon FW and converted it into my QT tank. I fell in love with SW fish so much I wanted to make sure and dedicate all my time and money to it. I am hoping this summer to get another tank, want a 75 gallon.

Anyway, hoped my little story helped you out Like others have said, be prepared to spend tons of money, take your time, can't stress that enough! It's one of the most rewarding hobbies ever though, so amazing to replicate the ocean and look at all the colors and beauty you have created

Keep us posted

It's all about patience. I have learned a lot in the past 8 months, even from just keeping a FOWLR. I don't think I would ever recommend someone start a reef right off the bat without prior experience. The funny thing is that I got into this because all I wanted was a porcupine puffer and now that I am all set-up I never even got one because it would limit me in my options down the road.

Good advice aquasalt, I too started with just FOWLR, still only have that actually. At this point I am just saving up for a much bigger tank and the necessary equipment to make a nice reef tank I will still keep my little nano FOWLR tank though
