Default Newbie issues

I have 150 gallon reef tank. I just add my first coral it is an bubble tip rose anenome. I tried feeding it some mysis shrimp, but I am not sure if he ate it.

Does anyone have any suggestions for feeding the anenome?

I also have red hair algae in my tank on a couple of rock. In my eco-system refugium I have red slime accumalating around the cheato and the filter socks.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can take care of these problems?

My tank is 4 months old I have a Flame Angel, Coral Beauty, 3 chromis, 2 maroon clowns, banded goby, and a Red Sea Sailfin Tang with 245lbs of live rock.

what are your water peramiters? any and all tank info will help. what light schedule? without any of that its gonna be blind guesses, but it sounds like nutrients are up, too low flow, and too much light time. take care of those first then get you some chemiclean to kill the cyano out. but check on it first with your anemone... i think it will be ok with him but not sure cause it will tick your corals off and they will slime heavy when tank is treated.

according to what i'm reading it SHOULD be ok with all you inhabitants

Quote:

Effectively Removes disease causing Red Slime Algae (Cyanobacteria) from your fish tank.
Works quickly without harming fish, invertebrates, corals or important nitrifying bacteria.
Oxidizes organic sludge and sediment.
Helps to clarify both Saltwater Aquariums and Freshwater Aquariums by removing fish tank red slime algae.

My anenome looked as if it was dying, but my clown seemed to have brought it back to life. I fed it Krill from the end of a skewer and it seems to be doing better. I just wish it will move to a more visible spot.

Okay we should all know anemones should only be added to a well established tank of a year or so but,,,,
How long ago did you add him??? How did you acclimate him???
What are your parameters???
If you just added him withen this week he could still be stressed from the move and acclimation... I usually wait to feed for about a week or two. I have fed more aggressive anemones soon after acclimation but they have been used to being fed alot already and took immediatly to the enviroment... You just want to leave him along with no contact for a few days....

I had an algae problem in my refugium, my LFS told me to put a small power head in there for water movement. I have since gotten eid of it, as for the cheato, it needs water movement to thrive. I have a fellow saltwater hobbyist that has cheato in his refugium, and he also was told by his LFS that he needed water movement to help with this problem. I would try to get as much algae out of refugium, before you add power head.... This has worked for him, and myself. I also think IMO that you should install a phosphate filter, with good water parimaterd and doing this, you should have positive results. HOPE THIS HELPS, GOOD LUCK !
