Default Suggested brand and type of Test kit.

I have my eye on a what seems to be a pretty complete test kit. I see simple drip testers and then some basic tube test kits. Any reccomendations on brand, or set I should get. Id rather over test than run the risk of not testing for something. My LFS said he has the same one he uses and he would give it to me for a really good price compared to others Ive seen and its a complete test kit.
Any suggestions highly appreciated.

I use Salifert for calcium and magnesium, and API for the rest.

My LFS sells API, and they use that to test as well, so far so good. I might be geeky, but I'll test my water, take a sample in, and ask them to test it. So far, we're getting the same results. It's nice to know my testing is similar to someone else. I chose API, because that's what my LFS uses. I am so comfy with the service I've received from them.

I know many of you have had issues with your LFS, but, mine won't sell me something to make a sale. They are looking for lifelong customers, who'll come back and be repeat customers. They will suggest other options. Perhaps it's the small town mentality. We're only about 30k here. Also, they are cheaper than the big city stores, and competitively priced to the internet, although, a little more expensive, not that much, and if you want something now, they do it.

no... not a bad idea at all till you are comfortable with it. you can never be too careful, consider the investment you are making and it's well worth it.

Salifert had a bad batch (supposedly) although no one got ill results from using them. I've also heard awesome things about Elos test kits . So I vote for Elos and Salifert.

okay thanks everyone. Im sure I will be well imformed when I go to get one. Im letting my LFS take care of the testing for now until I feel I am comfortable reading it all out correctly.

I use API as well but I heard Red Sea isn't bad either (better not be for the $ they charge).

It's actually quite simple for basic water tests it's the reef kit that gets a lil' complicated. especially mag., hope your math's up to par.
