lol now we're on the same page for sure.

and as to the stupid questions... those are only true to people who already know and are annoyed at others asking... doesn't make it true but some do act that way, if any of us come accross that way ignore it, prolly wasn't meant to sound the way it read anyway.

p.s. i say US because i tend to speakup and answer questions myself but am very new myself!

I've read a lot of posts that criticized newbies for asking questions we should have read or researched previously. I've read a lot of threads, and it's impossible to remember everything that has been posted, plus, asking questions generates new discussion. Perhaps I've read too far back. I'm sorry I offended you, I didn't mean too.

uvajed, I think the med thing was directed at me! lol. Your tank info is bang on. My fish experience is much the same. My first salt tank was 20 gallons in 2000. Since then we (wife and I) have progressed through the ranks of tanks to where we are now. It's a long process of addiction. sounds like you did it right though. My hat off to you for taking your time and researchin it.

Im thinking that the "Meds" Thing was directed at me... for going to the larger size tank... uvaged, your plan for the 75 gallon is bang on. It all starts some where, then slides down hill to complete addiciton. I just finished my Clam tank build this weekend it's tank 7. So, there is always some thing else to learn, or try....

We have run into a slight hitch!

The build plan on this tank last check was 96x36x36. After Double and Tripple checking my space avails the room is looking like it will cap out at between 8-9 feet interior width. We are cutting it really close for this thak. I am considering trimming the tank down to 6' in order to make it a better fit for the room. Any insight/ or thoughts out there?

Build your own plywood tank. Sounds like you are only going to be able to view it from the front anyway. Ive seen a couple write up on builds done this way. Just a thought.

I don't have any helpful ideas here, but I sure would hate to see that tank get any smaller!

Id like to know how you are going to maintain Ca levels in those small tanks full of clams. Got a plan for that?

Sounds great, but why would you place a CO2 recator in the reef, and a UV filter, the CO2 will promote ALOT of alge growth, and the UV filter will kill alot of benifical bacteria you need for a large reef system.

i don't know much about the CO2 reactor, but after the tank is established the UV sterilizer will be fine. most all bacteria will be on surfaces (rock, glass, filter media) not in the water.

I am indeed talking about a Calc reactor. The goal is to have the Calc reactor to maitian the carbonate, calcium, and trace levels. I have the regulator, and am waiting for the Probe and Controller. Still fighting...."discussing" the final size of the tank with my wife. I think that I am going to dig my heals in on this one. As far as the plywood tank.... I dun-nooo..... Im not a good carpender, and it would be a shame to loose my french angel, magestic, Emeperor, Blue face, and soon to be Grey pomacanthus. It may just mean that we have to wait a little longer for the Bucks, im ok with that.

I am actually planning to set up the sump as a tank to start (150-170 gallon) then when the tank is in place flip it to a refugium.

The Clams are not going in the big tank. However The calcuim has not been a problem so far. Im up to 12 clams ranging from 1.5" to 7" 4 are over 5". All doing well (knock on wood). I am having one hell of a time keeping the Carbonate hardness up. I am packin in the buffers.... Really, 3-5 tsp/week of pro-buffer. hardly saying abouv 130ppm gunnin fo 160. See the thread "Clam nano in the making" Have some pics of the tanks so far. I welcome input

Foot note... The Uv unit... im 50-50 on it. both my 100 gallon tanks have uv's on them. It makes a world of difference on disease. Absolutly no effect so far on bilology of the tank that I can figure.

As a complete aside,

There is no such thing as a stupid question...only a stupid answer. So, ASK AWAY. If some one sounds bothered and cranky about it, you probably don't want to hear their answer anyways.

Just my humble opinion.
