| I have just started getting my resources together to start on my second build. My 80 ga. reef is almost a year old now and is doing well. I have always love the the Dwarf Angels, especially the Flame Angel, but couldn't have them since they aren't really Reef Safe. So, I have decided that my next build will be a tank of Dwarf Angels. I would like to have some corals, and I know that the dwarf angels only bother certain types of corals. I know that I would like to have about 5 dwarf angels in the tank when it is completed, but may have to downsize a bit due to the costs of setting up. The Oceanic 29 ga. Biocube is looking like a really good tank choice since it would only cost about $400 with the stand, and then the optional skimmer is $34. If I got this tank, how many dwarf angels could I realistically keep in the tank? 3 - 4? Any suggestions? I may look at used tanks at the LFS too. I just can't afford to drop the $$$ I did on the 80 ga. reef, considering still have to buy the LR & substrate. Thanks for any suggestions. I am really excited about planning this build. |

| HAHAHAHAHAHA look on cragslist and YEA RIGHT i wish it were possible to keep 5 dwarf angels on a 29 gallon look if you do that they will ALL fight and kill eachother i mean a 29 gallon with that you could probebley pull one off ONLY one and i mean 5!!! ill gues youll need 100 gallon tank for that and even then you may not to be able to still keep five with none fighting. i had one in my 40 gallon but got rid of him because radomley at about 6 months of haveing my flame angel he just started picking at all corals not just SPECIFIC ones even though they like polyps alot more than the others its still a REAL good chance theyll pick so dont waste your time with dwarfs and please save your money and look an cragslist or something for a tank cause thats alot of money for a small tank... just my 2 cents

| I guess what I have been reading is incorrect. I was planning to get a Flame Angel, Coral Beauty, for sure. These Dwarf Angels don't having anything listed about not housing with conspecifics on Liveaquaria.com. As far as the price of the tank, $400 is not bad at all for a tank with lights, filtration, moonlights. and a stand. You can't get a skimmer, sump and drilled tank for anywhere around that as far as I know. As far as housing multiple angels, I said that I "would like to have 5". That is dependent on the size tank I end up setting up. Sounds like you are biased against the Angels. I will do I fish only tank if I have to, but mushrooms & leathers don't have the small polyps dwarfs are known to pick at. So are all dwarf angels really agressive? They are listed as semi-aggressive. If I set up a 55 ga. can I do a couple of dwarfs? I may have to hold off on this build b/c I can't afford to setup another 80+ ga. tank right now. |
| ||||
| there semi aggresive to other fish that are not of similar color or size but AGGRESIVE to their same spieces ( other dwarf angels) you can only have one in a 55 still i think with like 100 gallon you can have like 2 .. mushrooms are fine but thats the only coral i can say cuz of experence and about the money thing look on ebay or cragslist oo and dwarf angels should be the last fish added to a tank cause they bully any new fishes and try to feed it a variety of frozen food with enriched pellets or it will die due to bad nutrition cuz they need to have frozen sponge in thier diet .

| I happen to have a coral beauty in my reef, with many types of corals, no problems at all. Keep in mind though, you cannot mix these guys, especially the flame and coral beauty.

| the coral beauty is the least likeley to pick at anything out of all of them but theres still a chance but if your gonna try a reef and u really want one than the coral beutys ur best bet

| I've had a Coral Beauty and a Flame in my 110 gallon tank for a year now. It wasn't really my choice to have these two; I combined my old tank with an upgrade. The Flame does chase the CB and it's fun to watch. They are both in good physical condition. There are plenty of hiding places in my live rock which has been stacked with the help of acrylic rods. Who knows how long either of the fish will last? I'd still recommend against this mix, though. |
| ||||
| Thanks for everyone's input. I am cancelling this tank build. I love the Angels, but I like corals too much to keep them. I also did not know that they were that aggressive towards differnt types of their own species. I will hold off for a little while. My goal is to have a 200 + ga tank in 5 years! That is not going to be a cheap setup process! |
| ||||
| I had a flame and coral beauty in a 180 for about 3 months. Result...dead coral beauty. Centropyges are brutal to each other even in a large tank.
