Hey Garrett, is your ATO container open top? You said you're dosing kalk via the ATO, just curious if the kalk mix is in an open top container....I read somewhere that kalk mix looses it's potency faster if exposed to air.

Sorry about the late reply and yes i cover the top just to keep sunlight out of it, im not to sure about exposure to air but i think if you mix it to quickly (oxygenating it) that can have some reverse effects but either way i keep a lid on it. Im using a 32 gallon Garbage pail with sealing lid and i have a korlia 1 in there to keep the water slowly spinning this way nothing settles and burns your container, which was a big problem for me with the water jugs, they would always end up cracking and leaking at the bottom so make sure you get a think container if your doing this but so far the A/T Kalk dosser has been money well spent and less time spent. The only thing i have to do now is fill up the A/T garbage pail every 5 days or so which is way easier that toping off the tank by hand all the time and fooling around with water jugs and drip lines I can tell you that much.

And yes i gotta get you guys some pictures, I just lost my battery charger for the camera lol so as soon as its found or i buy one i will post some pics up

cheers

Ok so i got the Auto Top off hooked up and everything working so im not dumping water in manually on a daily basis which was very time consuming, now i just fill the container once a week and that works great for me and i also mix in my kalkwasser into the top off system and have a korila 3 in there that keeps the water in motion so the kalk doesnt settle at the bottom.

Here's some recent pics of the tank with the current cayno problem i have been battling

before

after

You can really see the cayno problem in this picture

when thats the lastest and greatest for now, im still renovating the basement so once that gets finished hopefully il have a nice clean tank again and everything will be in its right place cheers all

Yo Garrett, long time no talk. Tank is looking good buddy, nice Kalk setup you have going. Now lets get this pesky Cyano problem fixed!

I know you can you Phosphate reactors for Carbon, but I'm not too sure if you can use Calcium reactors for Carbon. I don't see why not though, as long as the granules can't get through.. Do Carbon reactors even exist? lol

Calcium Reactors & Kalkreactors | Marine Depot

Calcium Reactors Bulk Reef Supply - Bulk Reef Supply

Calcium Reactors, Phosphate Reactors, Reactor Media

Some of Big Al's prices can be fairly steep.. If you do a comparison you can find out easily.

Google "Life Reef Filter Cylinders" and see if that's what you had in mind...

Same here, I have had a few spots of the red slime pop up recently as well. Not nearly as bad as the first bloom, actually like 10 times better then the first bloom.. It is receding anyway so not much of a concern, considering I re-stacked all my LR and that stirred up some of the top sand bed so I'm going to go ahead and blame myself and the sand on this one .

Hows that Viper truck treating you Garrett? Saw one the other day with exhaust on it, nothing on earth compares to the sound of that V10, its almost unholy how loud they are. One question, what do you do when you get a lot of snow up there? I almost put the TA into a pole last year, nearly sideways yet somehow still in my lane and going in a straight line next to everyone else around me.. haHA, it was quite a sight to see.. So.. I bought a cheap Wrangler to put-put around town in with the snow.

Talk to you soon buddy!

Yeah i think my red slime is going away, i think my problem is i have to many fish and i also have not see my manderin fish for like 2 weeks now so im assuming the worst and if it died my green britle starfish would definitly eat his body which is bettter than it decaying in the tank but that sucks, I liked that lil fish so and he was in there for like 6 months too.
but yea i have just been working on th ebasement reno, got all the framing and wiring done and insulation/plastic done and now im just starting to put up the dry wall so hopefully that will go buy quickly and i can put some more effert into making my reef nicer.

As for the V10 truck i park it in the winter and i just drive a work truck through out the winter. The viper truck is much to nice of a truck to drive in the winter plus its rear wheel drive and not the best vehicle in the snow lol

cheers man
