here's a pick of the pump i ordered and will be using to provide all the flow in my tank and i have an older pump from a previous setup i will keep for a back up.

Quiet and durable, these magnetic drive pumps feature a powerful cooling fan, durable polypropylene impeller and housing, ceramic impeller shaft and thrust ring. The motor is totally enclosed. Connection size is 1" male threaded. Maximum head pressure is 39.4 feet, max flow rate is 1744 GPH. Cord length is 3.5'.

Hey Everyone,

So my pump came in and i also picked up a Coralife 50 gallon per day R/O Unit which crapped out after making 20 gallons so im going to take it back this weekend and exchange it.

I have had the last few days off work and have been able to work on the tank and my basement here are some pictures.

Giesemann Moonlight

Here's some pic's of the sump , make sure you use plumbing tape to seal any threaded pieces.

Here's some pic's of the sump pump, notice the union on the return spout this comes in handy when the pump needs to be cleaned. Also notice the flex hose attached to the intake spout, this allows for less vibration and flexiabiliy to be able to move the pump around a lil bit but more so for vibration issues.

Unions are around $15 - $40 depending on size and if you get one with a valve included

So i picked up a Coralife R/O Unit 50 G per day

Like my hose holder lol

Here's my MESS of a fish room lol i will be cleaning it up shortly, this is just to show you were i have hung the R/O unit but just so you know, this is not all finished yet i still have to finish the room with framming and drywall, I just want the tank cycled during the process.

And here's some pic's of the basement after i tore all the old sheet rock off and now im going to put all new wiring in the basement and frame the walls and go from there. Just waiting on my friend Ty to come help me with the wiring as he does it for a living.

Pic of the tank some what full of water

Pic of the sump in place with pump

So i stayed up till 12pm last night working on the plumbing for the tank and for my first time ever plumbing it looks as if i hired a pro to do it lol but seriously i just took my time and measured twice and cut once and always added a quarter of an inch to each end of the PVC pipe i was cutting as when you apply the PVC cement and insert it into your fittings it would always go a quarter inch farther in than when you are dry fitting your pieces to make sure they line up. the most challenging part is that the cement cures with in 5 seconds of you applying it so you have to be very quick and accurate or you'll end up going back to the hardware store lol but I lucked out and didn't have too. Also BE CAREFUL not to spill any cement on anything plastic because its like acid and will eat through it in seconds. Most people will use flex hose instead of solid PVC because its easyier for the DIY plumber but if you plan on having your tank running for Years to come PVC is deffinitly the better choice i have found through research and asking reefers and fish stores about there big tanks. But always do what your more comfortable with or you can hiring a plumber lol cheers!!!

PS. will be posting pics soon of the plumbing underneath the tank and I will explain why i set it up the way i did etc.

So making progress looks good. We are almost there, picking up some things like plumbing supplies. Recieved heaters ,pump, Korolias, skimmer, light some sand. Hopefully, this weekend will be productive and able to move desk into new study openning up space .Then next week electrician to add another box or two ? Then the fun can begin I am hoping for a Christmas start up. There's nothing like looking at an empty tank for weeks. It shouldn't be that long since we will be using LR and LS plus breaking down Nano at the same time more or less. Hopefully the transition will go as easy the initial set-up was for the Nano. Keep the pictures coming it will help us all out as to practical applications. Best of luck.

Oh one thing i forgot to mention about this pump that makes it unique compared to others is that it has a induction fan built into the back of it so it keeps the motor cool and doesn't heat the water that runs through it inturn the pump lasts longer they most pumps that don't have a cooling fan.

Your light looks real sweet Well we're getting closer, furniture has been rearanged, desk out study going, wife happy, all is right with the world. I'm hoping this week or early next to get tank. Preasure is off not hosting Christmas for the whole family, looks like it could be a low key holiday for a change, as long as we have cookies that's all that counts. Really enjoy your pictures, but I see you put some sand in already not the rock first ? I'll probably do the same like I always have, did you rinse 1st or gonna hook up a box on can to filter out dust. I'm getting so excited I could @%&T. My patience is really gonna be tested with this I may go back to smoking. on your tang sorry to hear .

Thanks yeah i love my new light the Germans sure know how to make things thats for sure, its so simple and easy to use. I didn't rinse my sand lol i usualy do but i couldnt be bothered as once i get the skimmer going plus my filter socks everything will get filtered out pretty quick. The reason you don't see any rock in there is because i have a 110 full of prime rock already if i was curing rock i would have put it in from the get go however i do have one piece in there but you should always put the sand bed in first before water thats just what i do anyway.

Also the tank is just about full il take some pics today of that and the finished plumbing.

Also yes i spent aboput 30 mins last night with a flash light searching the tank for my tangs dead body but its no where to be found im not sure what happened im just gonna assume my Zebra eel killed and had him for dinner but the weird thing is it was a bigger fish and i have 3 or 4 smaller than him and they havnt got eaten plus my zebra is half blind so theres no way he could catch a fish if he tried perhaps one of my tangs killed him who knows.

So it sounds like thing are going well for your setup when are you going to start taking pics? Also take your time, rushing now = problems later just think things through try to make your tank as care free as you can thats my goal because with my 110 i can spend an entire day cleaning and doing things and now that i know what is wrong with that system i know this one will be awesome and easy to care for.

LOL and yes cookies are good with milk this time of year lol got luck.

Ok so i took some pics of the Plumbing and also of the tank almost full.

Notice the two 7" filter socks there about $25 a piece and i would recommend them to any reefer out there.

Just some pic's of the rock i have been saving for this setup for a long time but the rock is not standing up so its not the special looking now lol

Im hoping to have the system running by tonight and water coming down into the sump and back up.

Also here's the link to my photobucket if you wanna look at all my pics easyier

awesome tank man, i also have a 180...but i wasn't lucky enough to have the space you have so all my stuff is housed directly under my tank!!!..which makes cleaning and working on it really difficult...i also have to carry buckets of ro water up from the basement..lol..tank looks great man, i really like your light, what kind is it again?...right now im using a aqualight light with 3 250 watt mh bulbs...I use AB 13k bulbs though, and i also changed out the 96 watt actnics to 96 watt actnics to dual actnic bulbs...my light is hidding in a custom top i made though.i really like the in the wall look, it looks awesome..the only thing on my tank i wish i did differently is i wish my overflows were on the back of the tank instead of the corners because my tank is out of the wall, i can see the overflows from the sides...

yeah if this tank was out of the wall i would just have one big one in the middle or two but since its in the wall i deside to go with the corner flows so i can see inside and make sure things are working good.

The lighting unit i have is a Giesemann MoonLight made in germany i was able to find it online from a guy who had it as i live in canada and they are only available in Montreal and i live in Ontario. but i have talked to Giesemann officials and they are trying to get there lighting systems out there but Big Al's the franchise doesn't seem to want to get involved with them for some reason perhaps they are afraid there units will crush all there other brands wihich i think it would because these lights are so awesome and user friendly so it will most likely be a while before you see any of these units around unless you open up a fish store and contact them and become a dealer. But i just got super lucky finding this light for $1000 when it retails for $1800 in germany but i hope to see these come into the market in the near future and im in the midst of talking with Giesemann and trying to help the process. BUt i really think there lighting systems would make a terrific product for reefbuilders to do an artickle on as they do other products. Also i used to have the exact same light as youlike a year ago but i traded it for an Apple Itouch than i sold that and got a cheap china light which is currently on my 110.

but on another note im building this tank to be very easy to take care of by having a drain and sink near buy it will be so much easyier to do water changes and maintain the tank with ease anyways hopefully i can see some pics of your tank sometime that would be awesome cheers.

Nope your R/O Unit is working correctly my membrain was messed up and the water was coming out way to fast in that pic but now its trickling like yours so no worries. And thanks for the kind words about the tank, its nice to see people posting on my thread.

Nice i cant wait to see your tank, what size tank did you order?
Also thanks, I did take my time with the plumbing but it was very easy to do I found and every one i talked to told me to go with hard pipe instead of the hose as over the years you will never have problems but whatever is easyier for you.
