Default So How Much Rock

So after reading Scott Feldman's article about tearing down the rock wall how much rock is enough to sufficently filter a 135? In the process of a build right now and want the open look. This will be a 135 reef with a 75 FOWLR plumbed togther with a 40 sump and 20 long fuge???? Currently have the 75 up and running with maybe 100lbs which needs to be "killed" due to massive majano and aptasia growth. Will start the 135 with dry rock, cycle and then teardown the 75 to move it.

I feel that the more rock you have the better, as long as you still have good circulation around the rock so I recommend around 1.5 Lbs/gallon. However, if you feed lightly and have a good skimmer, ozonizer, or other types of filtration, you can get by with substantially less rock. It should be noted though that only LR, LS or water changes will reduce nitrates once it is present in the tank.

I agree. 1-1.5lb/gallon is a good number. Keep the circulation up and the LR can only help you acting as a natural filter
