Default RO/DI water filter, without having to drill anything?

Hi,
Just starting out, I want to put together a 40 gallon saltwater tank.

Although I do not want to waste money, the overriding goal is to end up with the best tank, with least water problems. Therefore I am willing to invest in a good water system.

My house is fairly new, my sink has a hole predrilled for a hot water faucet (I guess), not sure about what is underneath. I am not good with do-it-yourself.

My question,
Is there a RO/DI system that would not require me to drill into existing pipes? Is there a way to attach if off my existing pipes under my kitchen sink?

thanks!

Hokeydays,

Glad that you are coming into this great hobby and you are spot on -- starting with quality water from the start is the way to go.

You may find that the under-sink method is not the best for your tank since you'll have to make up gallons of water and depending on your filter, that can be a matter of hours or a matter of days.

An option is to mount you unit in your laundry area or garage if you have one. You can get a screw on fitting that will take a normal cold water faucet for a washing machine or deep sink without having to pop a hole into your supply pipe.

I have my laundry area in the garage and mounted my RODI unit on the wall near the washer. I have a heavy-duty faucet "Y" splitter hooked up to the cold water faucet for the washer. The washer hose is connected to one side and the RODI to the other. A simple lever cuts to water off to the RODI unit allowing me to turn it on or off in a second. I then take my waste water line and put it inside the washing machine to collect the rejected water for laundry. You can also just stick the hose into the washer drain line if you want. I then have the output of the RODI unit and stick it into my buckets or collection tubs to make up water.

Hope that explanation helps.

Brian

Brian,
thank you for taking the time to reply, your explanation
was great.

I like the idea of the laundry room, I could do that.

Thanks again mate,
hokey

No problem! Its also a more portable solution to work out for you and as you get more advanced and you get your maintenance schedule and methods ironed out, may look into something a little more sophisticated. Some hobbyists will get a hold of larger containers to always have a batch of saltwater as well as RO/DI water available. If you have the room and budget, is always a good idea

Here's another option if you want to be able to move your filter around from time to time:

I put it in the tub of our seldom used guest bathroom.

Here is the easily removed connector for the water to reach the filter:

Close the shower curtain and it disappears...

Sure is. We recommend these frequently, especially for folks in apartments who don't want to make any permanant changes to the plumbing.

hose bib splitter and hose bib adapter work well in the garage or laundary room

inline undersink shut off supply valve works great beneath a sink

a faucet adapter kit work well too.
