I dont even know what I'm at, but its past $50 per gallon, I know that much !!!

Keep them pics coming Sanjay !!!

Jack is your helping hand, make sure you soak it all in !!!

Thumbs up for Jack teaching Sanjay the way !!!!

I agree "do it right the first time"

$950 is a pretty good price for the tank and stand, I was quoted $1,280 for the same tank with stand AND canopy, the same store quoted me $996.81 for a 120 aga with dual megaflows, MODERN series stand and canopy. I went to another store and he'll do it for $900 with the modern series oak stand/canopy !!

180G = 1440 Lbs now the conversion for the live rock weight any one know how to do this? I would guess this is difficult based on density and area of rock hmmmm this is where the college education would come in handy. Maybe in my next life! Maybe my RB wife can help me out on this one.

Don't you want almost 1.5 pounds of live rock per gallon. You don't need a college education for that, just a calculator! I guess depending on the rock and the price you can get it out there. SanJay, do you know what you want your tank to look like? It could make a big deal as to how much rock you buy.

I am trying to figure total tank weight. Figuring for water displacement and the rock weight

I am afraid my liberal arts degrees will be insufficient for that equation, dear.

Should not be that difficult.
If you know the tank weight and you know the rock weight that you are putting in.
Then just keep track of the water as you put it in and find the weight of gallon of salt water and multiple that by the gallonage used then add all 3 together.
This would be much simplier then figuring out displacment and all of that.

so round it to 10 lbs. and say 80lbs of rock displaces 7 gallons of water. so 55-7 is 48 * 10 = 480 + 80=560 pluss add sand (60lbs) =620 plus the weight of the tank (40 lbs?) 660 plus lights, hang on skimmer, and powerheads/pumps (15 lbs?) equals the grand total of 675lbs! I guess thats not ALL that much.

Cyberjester is right, that is the easiest way to do it. To get very technical you would have to determine the volume of the rock and sand (which is easy because you know the thickness of the sand layer and dimensions of the tank V=lxbxh), then deduct the volume of the rock from the total volume....etc etc. I am not sure if there is a need to be that exact.

Are there any questions about how much the stand can take. I just assumed that since the stand comes with tank it is designed to hold all the weight.

Sanjay

I think I am going to get three kinds of rock fiji, tonga branch and carribean coral rock (which by the way is porus and therefore lighter per unit of volume). My idea is to create three kinds of habitat within the tank. I think it will be cool.

What do you think?

Sanjay

By the Way ReefCrystals Buckets worked out well!
