Default Aquascaping Ideas.

You got any?

Specifically, do you cover the back wall or keep accesible for cleaning? I've seen both. I kind of want to hide the couple of pumps I am going to have sitting in the back of the tank (SCWD and Spray Bars) but I also want to be able to enjoy the tank from the sides. I hope that makes sense. I also want to stay away from building a frame with PVC, but if I have to, I will. I'm just in need of ideas. That's all. Visuals would be great!

Thanks a lot!

alright, basically i have a 55g and this is how i did it. this is from when before i was using R/O water though, so it looks a little green. fomr some reason the camera maked things look smaller and much greener than they really are.

i have all the rocks agains the back as much as possible. bad idea for cleaning, but you shouldnt really need much cleaning anyway if the tank is established.

Personally, I don't like putting the LR against the back wall for 3 reasons. First - usually end up having poor flow & more detritus collects in that area. Second - if a fish dies back there you'll have a tough time getting it out. Third - Many fish will hide back there. With the rock off the back wall some - you have easy access for cleaning, can keep an eye on things & I feel the fish are more viewer friendly.

Here is the Idea for The Background. I tried this on a box and not sure how far a can will go I was going to try this on SanJay's 180G but he did not like the idea.

This is Pond Foam for shaping Water Falls. I think that this would if sprayed on the inside of the tank be a fantastic environment for coralline algae to grow on

This was not my idea I found it in another website. Who ever thought of this is a genius

There must be a technique to applying this stuff.

I can't wait to try this on my next system!

Can't spare $7/gallon)?

New monetary unit = galz

Conversion rate = cost of product / tank size in gallons

Examples:
-90 gallon tank: "That camera cost me 8.89 galz!" ($800 / 90 = 8.89 galz)
-55 gallon tank: "That's great! it cost me 14.55 galz!" ($800 / 55 = 14.55 galz)

Sorry. A little CPA humor...

Hey JV Harding! Do you think that stuff might break down in a saltwater situation over time. If it remains stable I could see some real good possibilities.

This stuff gets real hard when sprayed in thin coatings. Pieces can be broken off and will float to top of tank. I think the only thing that may weaken it would be ozone. Also rock may scrape it away. I am waiting on a detailed report on the use in a reef from the manufacturer. Coraline algae should thrive on this stuff and may strenghten it some, I would think even protect it!

I Am Having A Problem With Live Rock..... Can Anyone Help? When I First Started My Tank I Took All The Rock And Stacked It In The Middle Of The Tank From Side To Side So I Could See In The Back Of The Rock As Well. Plus For Cleaning Reasons, Dead Fish, Circulation, Ex...... I Wasnt Really Thinking About It To Much, Added My Fish Some Button Polyps. Now Ive Realized That The Rock Is Not To Sturdy. And Im Wanting To Place Some Anenomies And Stuff To The Tank But I Dont Want The Rocks To Fall. I Have Tried Using Some Aqua Stik Epoxy Puddy. But This Doesnt Work That Well Under Water. I Looking For Something That Really Holds Tight. I Know The Puddy Would Have Worked Better If The Tank Was Empty First But You Know Live And Learn.
I Like The Way The Rock Is Stacked It Just Needs To Be Secure.

Some people on this forum have used epoxy, but I'm not sure which kind. Maybe they'll chime in with the product they've used...Anyone?

At Home Depot and Lowes you can find it in white. It is called "Great Stuff". There is also black foam at Home Depot called "Beckett's" in the outdoor plant area. Either one works equally well. Just give it 24-48 hours to become inert. I have also heard of an entire wall of this pulling away and floating. I don't know if this is true or not...in my opinion it isn't however an easy fix regardless is to lay down some silicone in the area you are going to cover with foam then spray the foam ion top of the silicone.

For a more "real" look after laying down the foam sprinkle it with an aragonite substrate.

I have strong feelings against pond foam. And here's why......

Pond foam as the name suggests is just that pond foam. I think asthetically it does not go well with a marine reef environment. Imagine a full setup with Marshall Island rock, Tonga branch rock, polyps and......a pond foam wall in the back????? I just don't think it is right. For a fresh water tank though I think it is a Grrrrrrreat idea.

But if you have to try it make sure that you can take it out (I am not sure how easy it is to do that). If not its going to ruin your whole vision about the Reef environment.

I wish I could post pictures of my tank now on RB but I still haven't figured out how to reduce the picture size. I have a cannon digital camera and it doesn't have size reduction facilities. Maybe its time to get a newer camers

Goodluck!!
