Default ArrecifeMadrid's 100G SPS dominated Reef

I'm new to the forum so I thought I'd introduce myself by posting some picutres of my setup. These are off my Blog where there's much more detail and more pics. It is in Spanish, however.

Here you can see where the tank is placed and the initial electrical installation. I installed an isolated breaker panel with separate GFI protected circuits for lighting, circulation and equipment (skimmers, reactors, etc.)

Detail of the stand built in stainless

The tank was up an running for a while until my carpentry was finished. You can see the lighting setup (partial) and my rubbermaid sump.

Detail of the electrical in the canopy while we were fitting the cabinets into place.

Here you can see how the carpentry is a mere shell that fits over the stand. The structure is provided by the stainles steel stand. The "shell" is MDF painted with a semi gloss laquer finish.

Here is the end result

Maintenance chores are facilitated by wide open front on both the upper and lower cabinets. The upper cabinet is hinged and held open with a pneumatic piston. The lower cabinet has fully removable panel.

... cont.

Equipment details

The tank is 1 meter (aprox 38") wide and holds 100 Gallons
Lighting is 250W + 150W metal halide with Ice Cap ballasts

Deltec 4040 return pump
Water circulation is provided with two Tunze Turbelle Electronics on a multi-controller and an aditiional MaxiJet 1200 will soon be replaced by a Tunze Nano-stream or one of the new Tunze Stream 6101.

The first year I had a Deltec APF-600 skimmer and about six months ago I upgraded to a Bubble King Mini 250. Both of these are really nice skimmers.
Here are the two side-by-side:

The BK is s serious foam machine

I use a Deltec Calcium Reactor to maintain Ca, Alk and Mg. The reactor is loaded with Rowa C+, Red Sea aragonite sand and Korallen-Zuch Magnesium crystals.

I have a homemade ZEOvit reactor and I´ve been using the ZEOvit method (modified to my taste) for almost two years.

A Captive Purity RO/DI unit provides pristine water for top-off and water changes. I use Oceanic salt mix (and yes, my Alk levels are always on the low end of the range).

A Resun Chiller keeps the tank cool during the hot Spanish summer.

Its been about one month since my last "weekly" water change. Yeah, between work, family and vacations, I've gone seriously off schedule over the last three or four months (and the tank really shows it). But now I hope to remedy that situation and start performing weekly maintenance, It makes a major difference. Then I'll happy to share some new pictures.

Cheers to all.

Muy Bien!!!! Now to move on from my massive limitations in spanish. That looks amazing. I love the total quality control you have had from start to finish. Your tank has me drooling.

While I am more a LPS coral type I enjoy seeing SPS tanks as they are just so incredible to look at.

Keep the pictures coming and congrats on such a beautiful tank.

Ah, LPS. They are also soooo beautiful. I had a tank dedicated to LPS a couple of years ago. It had just a few but very large pieces. I do miss it.

I'd love to start an Acanthastrea collection.

I got the answer to the lighting question from your other posts thanks.

You have SPS in the tank. You must have the lights on for a long time. Do you have any algae problem because of that ?

Also, are the SPS growing well?

The lighting is 250W metal halide in a Lumenarc 3 fixture. I prefer to use an aquaConnect 14000K bulb although I've had real tough time getting my hands on them lately.

I also have 4x39W D&D (Deltec) actinics, although I dont have them on the tank right now. There just isnt a lot of room in the canopy. But I do plan to work out a solution to get actinic in there. In the meantime, I supplement with a 150W SE 20000K bulb. Although I also took this off the tank as soon as the summer heat arrived.

Enrique,

I want to investigate your blog some more... n-i-c-e---

To all, thank you so much for all the kind words.

The only problem I have with algae at this moment is a small patch of bryopsis. It did get out of hand a few months back while I had a very intense travel and work schedule. But I just pulled out as much as I could and bumped up the ZEOvit dosing and added some anti-PO4 resins.

c-c. Encantado de conocerte. Te expresas muy bién en Castellano. Podemos practicar cuando quieras.
