Default Mantis or Pistol Shrimp?!

My new tank has been cycling with 30 pounds of live rock for a month and tonight, after the lights turned off in the tank it hit me... that CLICK sound!!! I have heard it off and on before at night but never gave it much thought, until earlier, just hit me like a load of bricks, I could be hearing a mantis shrimp!

However, I have seen on the web that pistol shrimp also make clicking sounds. Now, the sound I hear is a short single click, according the the www the manits makes repetitive quick clicks....

I have not seen the guy yet but it has to be one of these shrimp, right? This is my FIRST SALTWATER tank and I want to do it ALL right the first time! Anyone have any ideas as to what this critter is? I am thinking it wouldn't hurt to trap it to see what is in there but, will I be trapping my 5 (used to be 6, one mysteriously vanished (no body or shedded exo floating in the tank...) hermit crabs? I really think my missing crab got eaten, but by what? I do not know....

Help PLEASE!!!!

Thanks!
Dana

Umm, I think I've determined it IS in fact a mantis shrimp. Another piece of evidence in this mystery, a couple of my hermit crabs shells mysteriously had a small hole on their shells on day, out of nowhere!

Sooo. I guess does anyone know how to trap these without trapping your cuc?!

Thanks again!

put a dead something or other in the tnak, and let it sit overnight inside of a bottle or something, and about an hour after the lights go out, go and check it out, then if there is something, scoop up the bottle with critter in there. then you can sell it on ebay, or here! (once you get 100 posts)

Ya I also know a few people who would like a mantis shrimp. Cool creatures when they aren't tearing your fish in half or breaking your aquarium glass lol

you can even keeo it! get some live sand, and some small rocks, and put it in a 10g tank. then feed him snails and crabs and silversides. very easy to care for!

yea, try making a simple one way trap for him, or taking sections of live rock without important organisms on them which the critter may be living in and salt iodine dipping the,
