Ok I got a hold of some bad water, I thought it was RO/DI but it wasnt. So now I have green algae starting to grow in the tank. I know to do water changes with RO/DI water and that should help rid me of the algae, but my question is, is the algae bad for coral and fish or is it just more of a ugly problem? It is really not that bad, but I want to make sure it is nothing to bad because I am going to a frag swap and want to get some coral this weekend. Thanks.

Pay close attention to the growth of the algae cuz it will spread fast enough to overcome any of the coral in the tank. What kind of algae is it?? Better start to do some water changes if u haven’t already.

I googled "green algae" and from everything I read, it is not harmful to your corals. However, if you have any doubt, you should keep them in our QT until your algae clears up.
Do you have a clean up crew? if not check into getting snails, crabs etc that are coral safe to help keept the algae under control.
Since algae relies on photosynthesis for energy production (google is very educational!) try turning your lights off as much as possible without harming your corals.

Yea it is green algae, and since I am not getting the coral tell saturday I might turn off the light cycle tell then. That way hopefully I can starve the algae while I do water changes. And yes I do have a cleaning crew which is helping.

Do your light bulbs need changing and you could also hookup a UV if you wanted to go that route. Both moght help the green algae situation.

bulbs are less than two weeks old. UV might be a option
