Default Quarantine Tank........affordable Nano.....

Wasn't sure where to post this one. I have an 80 ga. reef tank and am trying to set up an affordable quarantine tank for the new fish I will be adding. However, with the cold weather and all I will need a heater for the QT tank. I currently have a 10 ga. tank, but after buying all the necessary items, power head, heater, etc, I think I may be better off just getting a nano tank, as I would like to start a small nano in the future. Or is there more cost effective way of setting up a QT tank. I would like to use the tank in the future as tank for 2 -3 smaller fish. What do you guys recommend?

I purchased a 10 gallon nano for a qt. Just seemed easier to have a complete setup in one box. and it looked nice Barring any need for meds it will probably become a dt and then I'll have to get another qt....

I found a really good deal on a JBJ Nanocube w/ Stand on Marinedepot.com. Got mine ordered......it will be QT tank and then eventually a display tank. Here's the link:

Once a QT always a QT tank. Most likely at one point in time you will be using various meds and possibly copper. You would never want to use this tank for a DT IMO.

I just plan to use it for quarantine while I am adding new fish......If I have problems with Ick or other disease later on, I will most likely use the little 10 ga. tank I have for QT then and buy a powerhead and heater for it. Once I'm done adding fish to the 80 ga., I will drain and clean the Nanocube before setting up as a display tank. The nano makes more sense at this point for the QT since I planned on getting one eventually anyway. It will most likely be sometime next year before the Nano is setup as display, if that soon. As far as a larger QT tank is concerned, after setting up my 80 ga., I just don't have the space left.

Here is the one I got from oceanproaquatics for 89.99 Oceanpro Aquatics - Online Store: 12G Nano Tank by Cube Masters 2008 New Release w/ Moon Lights

And I agree, once meds are used then its a hospital tank forever...

What will you use after a QT if you try to make it a display? Besides the meds thing, I would keep thatnano as a QT because we can keep fish alive for years, or a few months, or a week, or a couple of days. You might need that QT in the event you lose too many fish in the DT and want to restock.

Then you get another qt and turn it into a dt then get another qt..... Seriously, I did not mean you should do away with having a qt. I plan on always having a qt or hospital tank available at all times, I was playing with the idea that one tank leads to another!!
