With a 45 gallon tank it is just too small for any tangs. I would strongly consider taking him back to the LFS, he will be miserable because there just is not enough swimming space.

i got the tang from someone taking down their tank and he wasnt very healthy so i felt bad for him. He wasnt getting good nutrition and was being picked on by the other hungry fish. He seems to be doing real good and hes regaining his health

Everyone on here says that is too small for most tangs. That is just what I have heard. Most people on here actually think that anything less than 4 feet long is too small for 1 tang, and 2 is out of the question for a tank that size.

most tangs dont get to their full size in a tank and only need all that swimming space when they are...the yellow tang in my tank is over 7 years old and its still not full size
