Default Opinions on system set -p

There is a slight chance I may be moving. If I do end up moving, do you think it would make more sense to keep what I have now (55 dt with 20g sump looped into 40g seagrass tank and 20g frag tank)

OR........

Get a 100+g tank and have the 55 as the sump. THEN, make a 5" DSB in the 100+ and add all the LR on one side and all the seagrass on the other...like an "all in one" kind of tank.

I would not have any algae eating fish, except maybe my yellow tang (I know he may eat the grass).

Opinions....anyone?

Well...since Im spending your money hahaha...

100 tank, 55 gal sump, DSB in the fuge, 2" sand bed in the tank ( bare bottom if sps )
2 closed loop systems hooked to sea swirls or ocean motion fixtures. Holes drilled in bottom and back of tank to provide more flow from one of the closed loops in strategic places. An everything tank..lighting...difficul t...look at some japanese style tanks and how they use different kinds of lighting to do LPS, softies, and SPS in the same tank. Lot of pendulum style lighting. OH yeah....Ca reactor,ATO, Carbon and phosphate reactor, reefkeeper 2, titaniumm heaters, ASM G3 skimmer with all the mods, custom built stand of dark stained wormy chestnut and 2 circuits with GFCI Breakers in the wall....and a web cam lol...and 2 hooters girls

hmmm.....Lets see. Who is willign to lend me, oh say.....$10,000?

But, I was looking to spend almost nothing. I was hoping to buy new lighting, maybe some more sand, and thats it. I have lots of extra powerheads. I would sell the lights to my 55, 40, and 20g frag. I would then use that money to buy the new lighting.

If you want to spend almost nothing...then stick with what ya got . I know if I were to upgrade to a bigger tank no matter what I told myself now I would end up with a 100+ full reef tank.

It would be your lucky day, trying not to spend much money.........so if your luck is like mine, it ain't gonna happen. I don't mean that to sound harsh, you just can't go cheap with this hobby, much less the upgrade that you want.

An interesting dilemna, Elliot -- your all-in-one project sounds wonderful and expensive. On the other hand, what would be the focus of the tank. Maybe I'm a bit 2 dimensional, but transition zones are gradual and 100 gal seems small. I liked your "looped" idea better. Each tank has a single focus and within that focus is a myriad of life (somewhat) interdependent on each other. By interconnecting the system you've created increased volume and a more stable environment. In fact, my better half was bitten by the saltwater bug and wants to set up a "primative" nano tank. It's going to take a lot of research to set this little microcosm up and balance it.

PS. Can't give you a loan -- I'm so poor, I can't even pay attention.
