once i get a skimmer for my fish only tank, what else is required to before introducing live rock?

nothing you could of put live rock in before its just bacteria that makes it LIVE rock i mean the only other important things would be getting a Heater and geting a device that reads your waters Temperature, and live sand

40 gallon Reef with a 20 gallon high sump- One Yellow Wrasse, 2 Chromis, Hermits, Snails, one Sand Sifting Tiger Starfish, one fighting conch, and Corals- one frogs spawn coral, one Green striped and purple mushroom rock, one pink/tan mushroom frag, one hybrid mushroom rock, one Red mushroom rock, 2 differnt types of green star polyps, Two Cynarina corals, , one Fox coarl, one button polyp rock , one yellow scroll coral, one Big Orange Montipora capricornis, Two Orange Ricordea Mushrooms, Two Blue Maxima clams , One Big Yellow Trumpet Coral, one Halimeda Plant, a Cabbage Leather Frag, Red Sea xiena (purple), Tan Xiena, one pink birds nest, amd one loco lobo leather coral.

oh yea, i forgot about live sand. i have crushed coral as my substrate, would that work with live rock or would i have to replace it with the sand?

not really, you can use both, or either. if you do want sand i would suggest the GARF Grunge.

Crushed Coral will require more maintenance that sand but if you are okay with that should be no problem.

after reading the thread it occured to me that there are macro organisms that do burrow to find the detritis in the CC and sand, so i would still say both, but that's just my opinion.

to make it easyer and not have regrets later just change to live sand

i love the thought of taking all the ideas and rolling them into one. how deep of a DSB would you suggest, were i to go sand only on my next tank?
